Shawn Diedtrich, J.D. / LL.M. / M.B.A

​Principal

Shawn Diedtrich is the founding member of Prudens Law. Shawn specializes in providing business and intellectual property legal strategies informed by his extensive business experience.

Experience

Shawn enjoys a career that has been in both the legal and business communities. He seeks to bring his total experience to bear upon his client's issues to provide actionable, sensible, and forward looking advice. Shawn enjoys being a hands-on partner with his clients as he is acutely aware of the business issues that underlie legal advice because he has been in those same or similar situations.

Legal Experience

Shawn has developed and implemented intellectual property protection strategies as an attorney in an AmLaw 200 firm and a boutique patent firm ranging from individual inventors to Fortune 500 clients. Shawn has prosecuted domestic and international patents in software/hardware, web/e-commerce, financial systems, consumer products, marketing systems, telecommunications, mechanical, chemical and lubrication industries, including managing portfolios of over 300+ patents. 


He has conducted patent assertion and licensing activities for multiple portfolios valued at over $1 billion, including defending patents before the U.S. Patent Trial and Appeal Board. Shawn also has prosecuted and enforced clients' trademark and domain portfolios, including over 100 trademarks and 300 domain names.


Shawn is also experienced in structuring and negotiating complex license and litigation agreements, as well as merger and acquisition transactions.


Clients trust Shawn to help them form their business, and advise on general business and legal strategies and issues in a variety of industries, including software technology, consumer products, industrial products, and sports industries.

Business Experience

Prior to entering the legal field, Shawn was employed as a management consultant leading strategic, marketing, and operational analyses for Fortune 500 clients, small businesses, and individual clients, including new product development and implementation, and negotiating vendor/partner contracts.


Shawn also was employed at a Fortune 500 banking institution as a senior manager tasked with developing the operational strategy and managing operations for the bank's new online banking system. Shawn managed direct employees as well as cross-functional teams across the nation to complete complex infrastructure projects.


He was also a co-owner and general counsel for a professional sports team guiding not only legal issues, but business operations, player contracts, labor issues, media relations, and television/internet products as well as game day operations.

Philanthropy

Shawn is passionate about the STEM field and education. He has been a Board Member for a national non-profit STEM fraternity and is a co-founding director of a non-profit housing organization.


He is also passionate about youth sports, especially soccer. He has been volunteering as a coach for over 15 years.
